MENDON (WKZO) -- The first of its kind in dairy robotics for the Midwest was presented today at Riedstra Dairy farms in Mendon, MI.
The Voluntary Milking System, crafted by farming company DeLaval, allows cows to feed and be milked on their own time. The over 460 cows found on the Mendon farm can enjoy the temperature controlled barns and meander to feeding troughs and choose their own milking times based on their needs.
The VMS system allows the cattle to benefit from a low-stress environment which, Al Riedstra believes, will in turn produce a better quality dairy product.
