GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - A 13-year-old Grand Rapids boy critically injured while swimming in Lake Michigan south of Grand Haven on Friday afternoon has succumbed. Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Wolffis said that Christian Ouding was with his family at a private party at a home off of Lakeshore Drive near Buchanan Street. The youth was swimming near a sand bar when he began to struggle. As his father waded out to help, Ouding went under, and was found by divers in about 10 feet of water. The teen was eventually was flown to DeVos Children’s Hospital, but was pronounced dead at that Grand Rapids facility on Saturday morning. The incident remains under investigation.
