DETROIT (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder joined with federal and Canadian officials today to announce plans for a second bridge between Detroit and Windsor. MIRS news reports that a document summarizing the proposal requires that the agreement contain "[a] community benefits plan and for the involvement of the affected communities in both Michigan and Canada."
Lawmakers in the Michigan House have passed a bill to block the use of state funds for the new span, and the measure has moved to the Senate for consideration. It has been announced, however, that Michigan will not be obligated to cover any of the costs of the bridge and that no state appropriations will be required.
