HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Installation of the new synthetic turf surface at Holland Municipal Stadium is running ahead of schedule. Assistant City Manager Greg Robinson told City Council members last night that the project is running 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule, with work already complete on underground drainage for the field. The new turf is expected to arrive next week. The first game on the new field will take place Aug. 30 when Holland High plays Forest Hills Central.
Meanwhile, Robinson last night also outlined the proposed schedule for the city selling the stadium to Hope College. The council could vote next week on a resolution of intent to sell the stadium. It would be followed later by the city declaring the stadium as surplus property, deleting the facility from the city's parks master plan and approval of rezoning to fit in with Hope's educational zone use. The sale could be closed on by Nov. 1.
