HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The number of people who have fallen ill after eating at a Mexican restaurant in Holland has now jumped to more than 150. Owner Alonzo Salinas has shut down Margarita's Mexican Restaurant on 17th Street since the first reports of afflicted diners surfaced late last week, in order for it to be cleaned and to allow for the Ottawa County Health Department to try and find the cause of the outbreak. The illness is short-lived, with most people recovering from vomiting, nausea, cramps, chills and diarrhea within 24 hours, although one person had to be hospitalized for dehydration. Health Department spokeswoman Shannon Felgner says that the outbreak has only been at this one location. Test results from samples sent to both Holland Hospital and the state health department lab in Lansing could come back as early as today, which could determine just exactly what happened, but as to when Margarita’s can reopen is anybody’s guess. Any Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant diners who may have been afflicted are asked to contact the Ottawa County Health Department.
