U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney talks to supporters during a visit to Bizdom U in Detroit, Michigan

LANSING (WKZO) -- Former Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard is speaking out about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's reluctance to release more than two years of tax returns.  In a conference call organized by President Obama's re-election campaign, Blanchard predicted not releasing several years worth of returns "may well be fatal" to Romney's bid for the White House.

Former Michigan Governor George Romney, Mitt's father, released twelve-years of tax returns when he ran for the Republican nomination in the 1960s, which set the standard.  Most candidates have released their tax returns since the 1970s, though they are not required to do so.
