LANSING, MI (WHTC) - State health department officials aren’t saying that the recent 28-day shutdown to repair a leak in cooling tank posed any risk to residents living near the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant, but they are using the occasion to remind those in a 10-mile radius of the Covert facility, including those in Allegan County’s Casco and Lee Townships, to have potassium iodide pills on hand in case of an emergency. Despite three shutdowns in a year and a half, plant officials and federal regulators say that the Palisades plant is operating safely.
