DETROIT (WKZO) -- A 27-year-old female polar bear at the Detroit Zoo had to be euthanized Wednesday. Barle was put down after she was found to be suffering from terminal cancer. According to zoo officials, she had extensive tumors in her abdominal cavity.
Barle was born in the wild in Manitoba, Canada, and was captured as a cub and lived most of her years as a performing circus bear until she was rescued in 2002 and brought to the Detroit Zoo. Her death leaves the zoo with three polar bears.
