UNDATED (WHTC) - Alex Avila’s two-run homer capped a decisive, three-run second-inning rally, while Max Scherzer allowed just three hits with nine strikeouts over seven innings of pitching, as the Tigers defeated the visiting LA Angels yesterday, 5-1. The Bengals begin a divisional showdown series with the visiting White Sox at Comerica Park this evening, with coverage on 1450 WHTC beginning at 6:40 PM.

The Pale Hose come to Detroit off of a 3-1 loss at Boston last night, as one-time Tiger and Whitecap Cody Ross slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Red Sox. It spoiled eight innings of five-hit, shutout pitching by Chicago starter Jose Quintana.

Reed Johnson’s two-run single capped a decisive, four-run fifth-inning rally yesterday, while Paul Maholm allowed four hits over eight innings of pitching, as the Cubs took the rubber game of the series from visiting Miami, 4-2. Chicago opens up a three-game series in St. Louis against the Cardinals this evening.

Chad Wright’s two-run single capped a three-run second-inning rally that wiped out an early 2-0 deficit, while Wilsen Palacios and two relievers combined on a six-hitter, as the Whitecaps beat visiting Peoria last night, 4-2. West Michigan goes for the series sweep of the Chiefs at Fifth Third Ballpark this evening.
