KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Thursday was a grim one for police agencies in West Michigan between deaths on the road, on the job and in the river.A Woodland Michigan Man was found crushed to death by a falling tree on private land in the 16-thousand block of East R Avenue in Climax Township at about 7AM. Dead is 36-year-old Brian Thomas, who was clearing trees for Thomas Logging LLC. Kalamazoo County Detectives say it appears to be accidental, but will await the autopsy results before closing the case.

About a half hour later, a woman driving a car struck two pedestrians. It happened along 26th street in Comstock Township. The impact killed , 24-year-old Kyler Michelle Lanning of Kalamazoo. 22-year-old Darel Stewart of Kalamazoo suffered a leg injury. The driver, 24-year-old Amanda Ambs of Scotts was not injured but an investigation is underway to determine if charges should be pursued.

The body of what appeared to be a woman was pulled from the Kalamazoo River near Verburg Park late yesterday morning.from the state of decay, and the heavier kind of clothing she was wearing, it appeared she had been in the river for some time. They could not determine her age or race. The body was spotted by councilors and campers from the Nature Center learning to Kayak and canoe. Investigators will be going through missing persons reports and waiting on autopsy results.
