Tigers Complete Sweep of KC; Cubs Take Two in NY; Jays Foil Sox Sweep

by

UNDATED (WHTC) - Prince Fielder slugged a three-run homer, and Jhonny Peralta added a homer with three RBI, as the Tigers completed a weekend series sweep of visiting Kansas City by defeating the Royals at Comerica Park on Sunday, 7-1. Meanwhile, Starlin Castro clubbed a three-run homer to back the eight-hit, shutout pitching of Ryan Dempster and four relievers, as the visiting Cubs took the rubber game of the series with the Mets in New York on Sunday, 7-0. Finally, Colby Rasmus homered and drove in three runs, as visiting Toronto salvaged the series finale from the White Sox at US Cellular Field in Chicago on Sunday, 11-9.

Major League Baseball now breaks for Tuesday night’s All-Star Game in Kansas City, with action resuming on Friday. The Tigers will be in Baltimore, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 6:40 PM; the Cubs are home to Arizona in a Wrigley Field matinee; and the White Sox are in Kansas City to battle the Royals.

Kenny Wilson’s two-run single capped a decisive four-run sixth inning for Lansing on Sunday, as the visiting Lugnuts went on to defeat the Whitecaps, 5-3. West Michigan will look to avoid being swept at home in the finale of the series at Fifth Third Ballpark on Monday at the Noon Hour.
