PORT SHELDON TWP., MI (WHTC) - A paddle boat submerged in water north ofHollandraised fears and brought out the proverbial marines.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cal Keuning, rescue crews from numerous jurisdictions, including a Coast Guard helicopter, raced to the channel connecting Pigeon Lake with Lake Michigan in Port Sheldon Township around 8:30 last night after a caller spotted the empty vessel and noted that two women had been on it beforehand and were now nowhere to be seen. Deputies went door-to-door before finding the women unharmed. It was learned that the paddle boat had initially been beached, but the waves and the current brought it into the waters. The owners of the craft were notified of their negligence in not securing their vessel, and the scene was cleared.
No names were disclosed in the incident.
