KENTWOOD (WKZO) -- Fire investigators are now confirming that it looks like fireworks are responsible for setting the St. Mary’s Magdalene church in Kentwood on fire earlier this week after they have ruled out any other possible cause, and because of where it started.
The only other source of ignition near the roof might have been the electrical system, but an examination of the debris has more or less ruled that out. They held a prayer vigil in the Parking lot of the church Tuesday evening. They plan to rebuild but the timing will remain up in the air while the diocese wrestles with the insurance company and plans the reconstruction.
In the meantime the congregation will meet in a nearby high school for Sunday services.
