LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC) - An investigation continues into the circumstances that led a snowmobiler to apparently abandon his machine in about 10 feet of water, around 30 feet from shore, on Gilligan Lake over the weekend. Crews were able to pull the motorized sled out of the Laketown Township site yesterday afternoon after a passerby noticed a hole in the ice with tracks leading into it, along with an oil slick. According to reports, the unnamed driver was able to escape the snowmobile before it sank, but then walked away without notifying authorities.
