DEARBORN (WKZO) -- Approximately 525-thousand Ford SUV's and vans are being recalled by the automaker due to fire risks and a loss of power.
Over 274- thousand Ford Escape models sold in 2001 and 2002 may have brake fluid leak onto an electrical module causing a fire. The recall comes after a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In a separate recall, Ford says over 250-thousand 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles may have a defective torque converter that could lead to a loss of forward and reverse in the transmission. Owners will be notified of the problem and directed to their nearest dealer for repairs.
