HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - A 12-year-old Holland area girl is in serious condition at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids after she was struck by a car while attempting to cross a busy Holland Township road on Tuesday morning.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, Justice Alberta tried to cross Riley Streetnear 136th Avenue around 7:20 AM. Alberta ran behind a stopped vehicle, waiting to turn left, and right into the path of a westbound car, driven by 60-year-old Pamela VanZwoll, that was going forward on a green light and who couldn’t stop in time to avoid striking the girl.

Justice suffered head injuries in the accident; while the driver was not injured. West Ottawa School District officials say that counselors will be on hand at Macatawa Bay Middle School on Wednesday, where Justice was a student and VanZwoll was a counselor. The incident remains under investigation.
