Grand Valley Statesplit a basketball twin bill with visiting Saginaw Valley State at the Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale last night. Kayla Womack scored 27 points as the Cardinals took the women’s opener, 57-50. Nick Waddell had 26 points with 10 rebounds as the Lakers captured the men’s finale, 75-56. GVSU is home to Lake Superior State in another round ball doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.

In state major college basketball last night, Detroit fell at Valparaiso, 78-73.

Danny Cleary had a goal and an assist in regulation, but it took markers from Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler in the shootout to enable the Red Wings to outlast the Canucks in Vancouver last night, 4-3. Detroit is in Edmontontomorrow evening, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 9:40.

The Wings will face an Oilers team that blew out the visiting Blackhawks last night, 8-4, as Sam Gagner scored four times and set up the other four tallies. Chicago travels to Calgary this evening.
