LAKETOWN TOWNSHIP (WHTC) - What started out as a deer poaching complaint ended with someone who pulled up to the scene getting tased by an officer. The incident occurred Thursday night in the area of Island Lake Road in Laketown Township when Allegan County dispatchers received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area. The deputy spotted the truck and made a traffic stop, it appears to have just the driver inside. However, the deputy then found three other people were hiding in the bed of the truck with a shotgun and a deer they had just shot. The D-N-R seized both the shotgun and deer, while the suspects were cited for conservation law violations. Meanwhile, another vehicle came up to the scene and the driver to talk to the suspects. He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and refused to give his driver’s license when asked. When told he would be arrested for refusing to provide his license, he tried to flee. After a short struggle with officers, the man was tased, and later taken to the Allegan County jail. Authorities say he was found to be drunk, had open intoxicants in the vehicle and also had possession of a handgun. Felony charges are pending.
