KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Over a week after the mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary, there has already been a lot of debate about whether this is a “people problem” or a “hardware problem”.
Some argue that getting rid of the high speed powerful assault rifles with their big magazines is the place to start.
Kalamazoo School Supt. Michael Rice says they can beef up their security, that’s easy, it’s much tougher to do the real work of making sure that every child feels included and a part of the school community.
He suspects that somewhere along the way, the mass murderers felt left out because they were different, and keeping them included and involved might just change their attitudes. He says it’s not just one thing, its doing all of them well and that’s why it’s not easy.
