LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder has appointed a six-member team to review the finances of Detroit, in what could be the next step to putting the city under an emergency financial manager. The team includes state treasurer Andy Dillon, legal advisor to the state treasury department Frederick Headen, state auditor general Thomas McTavish and three members of the current financial advisory board.
In a statement, Snyder said his administration has worked and will continue to work with Mayor Dave Bing and city officials to ensure a successful Detroit, but given the financial crisis, the state must move quickly to make sure city residents continue to have access to the essential services they expect and deserve. The panel will have to report to the Governor within 60 days, but could be granted a 30-day extension if needed.
