Three-Vehicle Pileup in Allendale Leads to Hospitalization, Possible Charges

ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) - Grand Valley State students are in final exams this week, but for three who live off-campus, they had an accident to deal with last night.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, 18-year-old Nicholas Avink was attempting to turn from 68th Avenue onto Sunset Drive south of M-45 when his vehicle was struck by a woman whose mind was apparently not on her driving. The unnamed 19-year-old woman allegedly admitted afterward that she had been "using an inhalenant" moments before the incident, and deputies believe that drugs were involved in the crash.

A third vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Jessica Bosch, which was waiting to turn onto 68th Avenue, was also hit in the collision. She was taken to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Avink and the other driver were not injured. The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office for possible charges once the investigation of the crash is complete.
