The man behind the world's most famous anti-virus computer program hit headlines last month (Nov12) as it emerged he was wanted for questioning after the body of retired builder Gregory Faull was found at a house on the island of Ambergris Caye, off the coast of Belize, on 11 November (12).
McAfee, who was described by police as a ""person of interest"" and not a suspect, reportedly went into hiding, and told Wired magazine he had no involvement with his neighbour's death.
On Tuesday (04Dec12) he spoke out again, revealing plans to petition the Guatemalan government to be allowed to stay in the country.
He declared, ""Belize does not have a good track record of providing safety when they ask to question you. I felt much more secure crossing the border.""
Police in Guatemala arrested McAfee on Wednesday (05Dec12) for illegally entering the country, according to Reuters.
Officials are reportedly preparing to expel him to neighbouring Belize.
Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla says, ""He entered the country illegally and we are going to seek his expulsion for this crime.""
