Michigan Senate passes birth control bill

LANSING (WKZO) -- Legislation which gives healthcare providers an out when it comes to providing birth control services and any other issue they have a "moral objection" to has passed the state Senate.  Laws are already on the books allowing for providers to object to abortion, and critics say the latest bill opens the door to providers denying plenty of other care, including not treating people with AIDS or tuberculosis.

State Senator Roger Kahn of Saginaw was the only Republican to join Democrats in voting against the bill, as he is a cardiologist and says healthcare providers should not be allowed to refuse service on their own beliefs.
