LUDINGTON, MI (WHTC) - A Mason County Judge handed down a sentence of community service and fines to a 41-year-old Ludington man stemming from a fatal crash last May involving a couple from Conklin. Matthew Millspaugh pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor moving violation causing death charge in a deal with prosecutors. He apparently swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle ahead of him on US-31 between Ludington and Manistee and his minivan slammed head on into a motorcycle, killing Gary and Carol Berenbrock instantly. Prosecutors say that Millspaugh, a local school official, had no previous criminal record; he could be jailed if he violates terms of this sentence.
