LANSING (WKZO) -- About 87-thousand Michigan residents are set to lose their jobless benefits on December 29th.  That's when a federal program that pays for emergency unemployment benefits will end, unless Congress can agree on an extension.

The current program provides up to 99 weeks of total benefits in high-unemployment states, including Michigan.  If the program is scrapped, new recipients will be getting no more than 20 weeks of state support.
