Press Release from Big Apple Bagels:

HOLLAND, MI, November 29, 2012 – David and Sue Wathne, owners of the Holland and Jenison Big Apple Bagels locations, are proud to announce the Grand Opening Celebration for their third location on the Southern end of Holland. On Friday,November 30th, Big Apple Bagels® located in Holland at 1191 S. Washington Ave., will kick off the series of events with a 49¢ Bagel Sale all day long. For the next three weeks the store will be partnering with three local charities in an effort to raise funds and awareness for these fine organizations.

Week one the store will be sponsoring “Angel Tree.” David Wathne states, “We have been supporting the Angel Tree organization for the past eight years. We want to give our customers an opportunity to contribute as well.” To encourage participation, for each gift donated customers will be rewarded with $4 off a dozen bagels!

The second week’s charity will be “His Harvest Stand,” a local food pantry with locations in Holland, Zeeland, Hudsonville and Jenison. According to Sue Wathne, “Through our research we have discovered the need for food donations is very high this year. If a customer brings in one item, they will receive 5% off their total bill, 10% off for 2 items, and 20% off for 3 or more items. We want to give everyone the opportunity to provide food for those in need during this Holiday Season.”

During the final week, “Hand2Hand” will be the focus charity. Hand2Hand is a local non-profit organization that assists children who have access to little or no food during weekends. The organization provides backpacks to childrens’ lockers each Thursday afternoon that are filled with food for the weekend. These children have been proven to need food over the weekends because they have no school meal programs during that time. David said, “We have been informed that many children go home on Friday and do not have a regular meal until lunch on Monday in school. Hand2Hand provides food to help prevent this from happening.” If a customer brings in one item, they will receive 5% off their total bill, 10% off for 2 items and 20% off for 3 or more items.

During this three-week period there will be unadvertised weekly drawings for various food giveaways and gift baskets. Stop in to register and be entered to win the big giveaway on Friday, December 21st. The Wathne’s will be giving away a number of prizes, including an IPad, during a live radio remote. They will also be sharing the results of the charitable works done during these three weeks. “We know Western Michigan will pull together in force and give to these important organizations. It’s the time of year to help your neighbor and we are thrilled to be able to give our customers the opportunity to do so,” said Sue.

David and Sue Wathne have been Big Apple Bagels owners since 2001 when they took over the location on Waverly Rd. in Holland. In 2011 they purchased the location in Jenison and are now opening their third location. They are committed to providing the highest quality product and service to their customers and all of Western Michigan. The Wathne’s are consistently among the top grossing franchise owners in the Big Apple Bagels system. They have also had the honor of being voted best bagel in Western Michigan for the last ten consecutive years!
