WALKERVILLE, MICHIGAN (WKZO) -- There will be an investigation of a Helicopter crash in Oceana County that claimed one man’s life and put a second in the hospital Saturday Afternoon.
48-year-old Thomas Slocum of Hart was flying over “Tanner Swamp” a large and remote wetland in the Manistee National Forest when the helicopter went down in the water. The passenger, 28-year-old Matt Williams managed to call on his cell phone and give rescuers a location, but response teams had to hike in and hike out of the crash site, carrying Williams.
The site was inaccessible to ATV’s or helicopters. Slocum did not survive the crash. Williams is reported in fair condition at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
The cause of the crash was not released.
