HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The 151st academic year at Hope College is underway. The first classes began this morning for more than three thousand students, with an official count expected sometime in the next month. The final returning sophomores, juniors and seniors settled into their residences on and off campus yesterday, following the weekend arrival of over 900 newcomers. Highlighting the incoming class of 2016 is a seventh-generation Flying Dutchman. According to school publicist Tom Renner, Andrew Neevel of Ann Arbor continues an unbroken line dating back to before Hope College was chartered, as Adrian Zwemer graduated from the then “Pioneer School” in 1857. Another freshman, Jonathan Hoffman of Holland, is a fifth generation Hope student, while there are 16 fourth generation enrollees. Classes run through April 26th, with graduation slated for May 5.
