The Moonlighting star announced her engagement to Serbian psychologist Andrei Nikolajevic in July (12) and the 62 year old jokes he tested her true love by popping the question in New York City on bended knee - with a piece of steel wire.

She tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, ""First he gave me a paper clip, that he had twisted into a ring. And then he got me this beautiful ring... It's an heirloom.... It was a very romantic moment. He makes me laugh. He's fantastic.""

And Shepherd admits she really enjoyed the moment, because despite being married twice before, she never experienced a proper proposal, only walking down the aisle after falling pregnant to avoid being an unwed mother.

She adds, ""Well, I was pregnant, so we kinda (just) got married. So I never went through that engagement thing. It's kinda fun!""

The screen veteran was previously married to nightclub entertainer David M. Ford and chiropractor Bruce Oppenheim.
