LANSING (WKZO) -- Kent County Prosecutor William Forsyth says he looked into possible charges against state House Speaker Jase Bolger and Representative Roy Schmidt of Grand Rapids. He told the "Detroit Free Press" that he determined, however, building a case of conspiracy to commit perjury against the two lawmakers would have taken too long and been difficult to prove.
Forsyth ended a state police investigation into Schmidt's last-minute switch from Democrat to Republican and allegations of paying a family friend to run a phantom campaign against him after a few months. He said he did so in order to get the word out through the media about the scheme before the August 7th primary.
