ANN ARBOR (WKZO) -- A former University of Michigan student body president is awarded 4.5-million dollars in damages after a federal jury rules a former state assistant attorney general went too far in attacking the student in his blog.

Chris Armstrong filed a lawsuit after Andrew Shirvell published a blog in 2010 claiming Armstrong, who is gay, had a radical homosexual agenda for the school and accused him of trying to recruit others to become homosexual.  The suit accused Shirvell of defamation of character, invasion of privacy and stalking.

Shirvell, a 2002 graduate of the university, was fired by then state Attorney General Mike Cox in November 2010 after controversy surrounding the blog became public.
