LANSING, MI (WHTC) - Jim Haveman is back in his old chair.
The one-time Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health will return to that post on September 1. He was named by Governor Snyder to the position on Wednesday, replacing Olga Dazzo, an initial appointee when the Snyder Administration assumed office 19 months ago, who is returning to the private sector, although she will help in the transition period through mid-October.
Haveman was the DCH Director under Governor John Engler from 1996 through 2003; spent some time as an advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Health during the George W. Bush Administration; and was on the board of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, a spot that he is stepping down from on Friday to avoid any conflict of interest.
Although the spelling of the last name is the same, Jim Haveman is no relation to State House Representative Joe Haveman (R-Holland).
