Yankees Slug Benoit, Tigers; Soriano Leads Cubs

UNDATED (WHTC) - Mark Teixeira and Eric Chavez slugged solo homers on consecutive pitches off of Joaquin Benoit in the eighth inning to give the visiting Yankees a 4-3 victory over the Tigers yesterday. Detroit begins a three-game series in Arlington against Texas this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC starts at 7:40 PM.

Alfonso Soriano’s two-run homer in the eighth inning enabled the Cubs to beat visiting Cincinnati last night, 5-3. The series at Wrigley Field in Chicago continues this afternoon.

Off yesterday, the White Sox open up a three-game series against visiting Oakland at US Cellular Field in Chicago this evening.
