SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - A ceremony is scheduled this afternoon in front of St. Basil Church in South Haven, as the Historical Association of South Haven formally receives the deed to the South Haven Pierhead Lighthouse. The facility was acquired at no cost by the non-profit group through the National Lighthouse Preservation Act, after the Coast Guard declared the structure surplus to requirements two years ago. The H-A-S-H is holding a pledge drive to raise funds for maintaining the building, along with an estimated 350 thousand-dollar price tag for restoring the 109-year-old lighthouse.
