OTSEGO, MI (WHTC) - Authorities believe that speed was a factor, but aren’t sure at this point about alcohol, in a crash early this morning that killed a 38-year-old Plainwell man. Witnesses say that Stephen Magierka III had been working late last night on his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle when he took it out on a test drive. Unhelmeted, Magierka had gone about a half mile along 106th Avenue when, attempting to negotiate a curve near 12th Street north of Otsego, he lost control of his machine. It went off of the roadway and into a ditch, throwing the driver into some tall grass. Efforts to revive him at the scene failed, and Magierka was pronounced dead at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. The incident remains under investigation.
