SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP (WHTC) - After years of legal battles, a plan for developing the former Denison property north of the Kalamazoo River in Saugatuck Township has been submitted. Singapore Dunes LLC posted its plans for the 310-acre site on its Web site – singaporedunes.com – on Friday. Singapore Dunes, which is owned by Oklahoma oil magnate Aubrey McClendon, is proposing construction of a 25-suite hotel and spa complex with a 90-foot high central tower, along with three adjoining condominium buildings with a combined 56 units, a nine-hole golf course and a 66-slip marina. The development would be concentrated in area of the property that had been used as a boat factory for more than 30 years. The Saugatuck Township board of appeals is expected to hold a hearing later this month on variance requests for the project, including the hotel.
