HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The annual fundraising documentary showing by Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates in Holland’s Knickerbocker Theater is on Saturday evening.
Former Holland City Councilman Craig Rich and other members of the locally-based dive team will go over the discovery of a vessel found last fall in deep waters of Lake Michigan about 20 miles off of the Grand Haven shore. It is believed that they found the remains of the St. Peter, a cargo ship that was hauling wheat from Buffalo to Chicago when it sank in 1874, with all hands able to survive. An analysis of the contents taken up from the depths later this year could substantiate this discovery.
The “Beneath the Inland Seas” program begins in the Knickerbocker at 7 PM, with proceeds going towards the MSRA’s ongoing efforts to locate fallen vessels in the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Michigan.
