Zeeland West Student Killed In Olive Township Crash

OLIVE TOWNSHIP (WHTC) - A student at Zeeland West High School is dead after after a two-vehicle crash in Olive Township. 17-year-old Carlos Puebla died Wednesday afternoon in the accident at 104th Avenue and Polk Street. Sergeant Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says Puebla was driving his Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on 104th when he failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck on the passenger side door by a pickup truck driven by 33-year-old Jason DeBoer of Zeeland. The impact sent Puebla's car over the ditch, and DeBoer's truck rolled over. Puebla was pronounced dead at the scene. DeBoer is in stable condition at Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital with head and back injuries. Puebla was a senior at Zeeland West and a member of the Zeelandmarching band. He had played at Ford Field last November with the band at the state high school football finals, when Zeeland West won the state Division 4 championship.
