ALLENDALE (WKZO) -- A student at Grand Valley State University is suing because they won’t let her guinea pig outside her dorm room and around the facility.
28-year-old Kendra Velzen says she is chronically depressed and the furry rodent was recommended by her psychologist. The University says she can keep it in her room, but apparently they draw the line at Velzen taking it into common and food service areas.
Her federal lawsuit says that violates Fair Housing Laws.
Her Attorney, Steve Dane says they are seeking compensation because of the embarrassment and distress she has suffered dealing with the issue.
University Spokesperson Dottie Barnes says they have not seen the lawsuit and are not commenting on it at this time.
