KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC) - A funeral service is this morning at 11 AM for Joshua Boerigter, the 18-year-old Hope College student from Portage who was killed on Monday night by a slow-moving coal train on campus near 12th Street and Lincoln Avenue. The funeral is slated for Second Reformed Church on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo. Investigators haven’t conclusively determined what led Boerigter to be on the tracks as the train’s engineer blew his whistle and applied his brakes in an effort to avoid striking the man.
