I'm a complainer. I admit it. But when are the Glee people going to understand that covering Adele is a set-up for failure? It's inviting unwelcome comparisons to a woman who could make you shudder by singing the birthday song at a slow tempo. For the show's 300th song, we'll see Santana, Brittany, Mercedes and the rest of the nameless TroubleTones choir perform a mash-up of Adele's songs ""Rumor Has It"" and ""Someone Like You."" I will commend both Naya Rivera and Amber Riley for their fierce performances and some actual group choreography -- something New Directions never really seems to get the hang of.
The real issue I find with this mash-up is that it completely undermines the power of ""Someone Like You"" -- a song that could make most girls tear up in the middle of the business meeting. Mash-ups are cool when you're mixing Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson, but mixing ""Someone Like You"" with anything else is a bit of a travesty. Plus, does anyone else think it's strange that the 300th song honor goes to our merry band of New Directions defectors?
This number will air next week during an episode appropriately titled ""Mash Off"" on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
