HOLLAND, MI (WHTC News) - Holland’s Signature Event will have an operational leader at the helm this spring.
Officials of the Tulip Time Festival announced yesterday that Gwen Auwerda will begin her duties as the new Executive Director of the event on Monday. The 51-year-old Hope College graduate has more than two decades of experience in human resources at JCI and, for the past three years, at parts maker AEES’ facility in Mattawan. She has also been involved in a number of local civic organizations, including the Lakeshore Athena Award Program, where she is currently chairing that effort, as well as the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership Holland program.
Auwerda emerged from over 180 candidates who applied for the position when Tamra Bouman was sacked by the festival board in June following eight years at the helm. The board conducted a nationwide search while Sara VanderZee handled operational leadership duties in preparing for this year’s event, which begins on May 7th.
