LANSING, MI (Metro Source) - Michigan is now a beneficiary state, getting more in federal spending than it pays in taxes. Part of the reasonis that Michigan is paying less in taxes because fewer people are working, and the state is getting more money to help those in distress. In 2009, Michigan received $1.64 for every dollar collected in U.S. taxes. That ranks 21st among the 50 states.
