LANSING (WKZO) -- Flags across the state will be lowered on Monday to honor Private First Class Brian Backus of Harbor Beach.  Backus died on June 18th while on active duty in Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the Second Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, New York.  His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Combat Medical Badge.
