LANSING, MI (Metro Source) - A ban on deer baiting and feeding has been lifted by the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. The ban was put in place in 2008, in response to the detection of Chronic Wasting Disease in a deer at a private deer breeding facility in Kent County. Deer baiting will remain banned in Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle counties due to concerns over Bovine Tuberculosis. In all other counties, hunters will be allowed to place any type of bait in quantities less than two gallons at a time, across a ten-foot by ten-foot area per hunting location.
