HOLLAND, MI (WHTC News) - The Hope College Board of Trustees, after concluding two days of meetings on Friday, issued a Statement on Human Sexuality that replaces the school’s now-16-year-old Institutional Statement on Homosexuality. In it, the board said that the college would continue to not recognize or support on-campus groups aiming to promote a vision of human sexuality contrary to Scriptures, but would invite the entire Hope community to a “renewed encounter” with the biblical witness regarding human sexuality. The statement culminated over a year’s effort in revisiting this issue in the wake of the school’s refusal to allow filmmaker Dustin Lance Black to speak about gay issues on campus while he was filming a movie in the Holland area.
