HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC News) - There will be three school districts in Ottawa County with the proverbial hat in hand at the ballot box come May, asking voters to approve funding proposals.
Last night, the Hudsonville Board of Education approved final wording for an issue that, if approved, would enable the district to fund nearly 82 million dollars in improvements while locking in a seven-mill tax levy over the next 30 years. Officials say that the money is needed to update and expand facilities and technology, as the district continues to be one of the few along the Lakeshore to continue experiencing enrollment growth.
Hudsonville joins West Ottawa and Jenison in putting funding issues on the May 3rd ballot. West Ottawa is seeking 26 million dollars for bonds, while Jenison wants 32 million dollars, with both districts seeking the money for building new performing arts centers and other infrastructure improvements.
