LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan is lagging behind other states when it comes to taking care of its homeless children. The state ranks 22nd overall in the National Center On Family Homelessness' latest study on childhood homelessness, with over 38-thousand homeless kids reported last year.
The report, "America's Youngest Outcasts 2010," based its rankings on data including the extent of child homelessness in each state, child well-being and state policy on the issue. The state with the best outlook for homeless kids is Vermont, while Alabama ranked last.
