Rick Porcello tossed six-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball to pitch the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Mariners. The victory yesterday afternoon allowed Detroit to finish with a winning 4-and-3 record on the road trip that started a week ago in Oakland.
Porcello allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out six for his first win of the season. Jose Valverde gave up a solo homer in the ninth before posting his fourth save. Ryan Raburn homered, and Miguel Cabrera and Brennan Boesch added RBI singles for Detroit.
The Tigers, now 8-and-9 on the season, have the day off today before opening a 3-game series tomorrow night at Comerica Park against the White Sox, who have dropped seven straight with their 4-to-1 loss last night at Tampa Bay.
And the Cubs split their doubleheader with the Padres at Wrigley Field, winning 2-to-1 in 11-innings yesterday afternoon before losing 5-to-4 last night.
