ZEELAND, MI (WHTC News) - The Zeeland City Council last night unanimously rejected a request by Consumers Energy to close Washington Avenue between Fairview and 84^th avenues. The utility wanted this final solution due to fog emanating from a nearby power plant in winter that can drop visibility in that area to near zero. A gate system is currently in place to divert traffic in such situations. No new ideas were immediately offered as an alternative.
